Remembering Jackson

This year, in honor of Jackson, I would like to invite you to join me in supporting Camp Confidence, located in East Gull Lake, Minnesota.

Camp Confidence holds a very special place in our hearts. It’s where our family was able to enjoy two unforgettable years of outdoor adventures together — experiences that were truly accessible for all of us.

Even though we lived in northern Minnesota, finding outdoor places that accommodated both Jackson and Clara was often a challenge. As the kids grew, those challenges only increased. Then, our social worker told us about Camp Confidence — a nearby, affordable, and fully accessible camp where families like ours could experience the joy of the outdoors together.

From the moment we arrived, we felt welcomed. Our family stayed in a spacious, fully accessible cabin surrounded by beautiful nature. We had our own camp counselor who customized activities to fit the kids’ interests and abilities — ensuring that every day was fun, safe, and inclusive.

Jackson and Clara were able to go pontooning, fish from the dock, ride on inflatables behind boats, and explore the lake in a glass-bottom boat. The staff went above and beyond, often bringing their own children to join in the fun and make everyone feel at home. Camp Confidence was easy to navigate, full of laughter, and most importantly, a place where our whole family — including our typical son — could share the same outdoor experiences together.

What makes Camp Confidence truly special is that it remains affordable thanks to the generosity of donors and fundraisers. As a one-income family, that accessibility meant the world to us.

Now, I want to give back. I’m fundraising to help ensure that more families like ours can discover the same joy, connection, and freedom that Camp Confidence gave us.
