Isuroon invites you to celebrate Ramadan with us by providing food for those in need! By donating to our Ramadan Fundraiser, you can provide families and individuals in need with food items from our culturally specific halal food shelves. Ramadan, celebrated by many in the Somali and East African community, is the holy month of the Muslim year during which strict fasting is observed from sunrise to sunset. Isuroon is dedicated to ensuring our communities have food on their tables come sunset, but we can’t do it alone.
Isuroon has observed first-hand the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on our communities. The pandemic brought a dramatic increase in unemployment and with it, increasing concerns of food insecurity. We got straight to work when the COVID-19 pandemic hit by expanding our reach through the launch of 13 satellite food shelves in the Twin Cities and surrounding areas. Since then, we have been able to serve over 2,500 individuals and families with food – but we aren’t done.
This Ramadan, Isuroon is emphasizing healing as our communities recover from the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. Isuroon is aiming to raise $60,000 by the end of Ramadan (May 12th) in order to purchase and distribute culturally specific food items for at least 1,200 individuals in 4 counties in and around the Twin Cities. This is where you come in – whether you are able to sponsor a family with a bag of food or one food item, every little bit helps our communities during this time of healing.
How much does 1 bag of food for a family cost?
Each bag costs about $40.00 to fill, with $10.00 added on per bag to pay for associated fees, delivery, and wages for our food shelf distributors.
What will go in 1 bag of food?
• 10 pounds of flour
• 10 pounds of sugar
• 10 pounds of rice
• 1 bag of oatmeal
• 1 bag of dates, a traditional food eaten during Ramadan to break the fast
Your donation is more than a dollar amount - it is your care for the community at the most difficult times that matters and we will remember it. Here at Isuroon we made the promise and commitment that our doors are always open to our community and while COVID-19 has affected many aspects of our lives, our promise remains intact.
