Update posted 2 years ago

To everyone who donated and shared our Indigenous Food Share Solidarity Fund: Miigwech / Pidamaye / Ahéhee' / Pinagigi / Wado / Goshted / Thank you! With your support we were able to exceed our original fundraising goal, and raise over $10,900, which will directly support Indigenous Food Shares (IFS) for Native families in the Twin Cities metro area, who would otherwise not be able to afford a share. This fund has allowed us to transition our IFS program to a sliding scale payment model, which greatly increases access to Indigenous foods in our community. Any funds leftover from this season will roll-over to next season, and we hope to continue this fundraising each season, allowing us to continue building food sovereignty in our community, especially as we grow and expand into the new land we are stewarding.

The need for increasing access to Indigenous foods in our community is clear. We received more requests to join our IFS program this season than ever before; this year we sold out of shares during our pre-sale and our waitlist quickly filled up, and last year we sold out in just a few hours. We have doubled the size of our IFS program this season and last season, and we look forward to growing into additional acreage as we expand to meet the needs of our community.

Thank you to all of our IFS members, both present and past - we truly can’t do this work without you! To those who we’re unable to accommodate into our IFS program this season: we hope you’ll continue to support us as we grow, and we invite you to join other opportunities  to access our farm’s foods and medicines via online ordering and the farmers market (stay tuned for 2022 season announcements).

We are so grateful for your continued support, and can’t do this work without each and every one of you!

Indigenous Food Share Solidarity Fund

Dream of Wild Health (DWH) is excited to announce a transition towards a sliding scale payment model for our Indigenous Food Share (IFS) program, which will increase food access to Native families in the Twin Cities. To make this possible, we have created the Indigenous Food Share Solidarity Fund. Donations will go towards subsidizing the cost of IFS shares for DWH program families and community partners who otherwise would not be able to afford a share.

What is an Indigenous Food Share?

An Indigenous Food Share (IFS) is part of a Dream of Wild Health program that uses a community supported agriculture (CSA) model, where members invest up front in the farm, and then receive a box of produce and Indigenous foods grown at our farm, on a weekly/bi-weekly basis. Indigenous Food Shares are a unique way to bring low-cost, high-quality, nutrient dense, Indigenous foods grown at our Native-led farm to Native families in the Twin Cities. This model seeks to put the ownership of our food system back in the hands of the community. All of our produce is grown using Indigenous farming practices; we believe in reciprocity, and follow organic and regenerative farming methods; everything we grow is non-GMO, and free from non-organic pesticides and herbicides. We seek to be a part of restoring the health of our soils and health in our community by rebuilding our connection to Indigenous foods. Learn more about our Indigenous Food Share program here.

Dream of Wild Health has historically offered a 16 week Indigenous Food Share, and in 2021 experimented with extending the growing season by an additional 8 weeks. With your financial support, we hope to offer the following sliding scale payment structure to IFS members in 2022:

  • Full Share: $0 - $600+
  • Half Share: $0 - $300+
  • Any additional share options or food security boxes: $0 - $150+

We are so grateful for your continued support, and can’t do this work without each and every one of you! Miigwech / Pidamaye / Ahéhee' / Pinagigi / Wado / Goshted / Thank you!
