African Career, Education & Resource (ACER) is a Black-led organization that has supported African Diaspora communities in the northwest suburbs of Minneapolis and the greater Twin Cities region since 2008.
As the leading issue-based community organization working to uplift and amplify the African Diaspora, ACER is building power for systemic change that advances racial and economic equity in communities.
This year on Give to the Max, ACER is supporting Civic Engagement. We are encouraging our community to participate in the affairs of their local, state, and national governments in order to have their voices heard and needs met. We register voters, keep community members up to date on issues impacting their lives, and partner with community members and groups to advance causes that better the lives of our fellow residents.
Our work includes:
- helping people register to vote
- providing people with civic education on redistricting & changes to the voting system
- partnering with Jewish Community Action and other community groups to advance a separation ordinance that protects undocumented individuals from being targeted by authorities
