Holiday Acres Apartments, located in West St. Paul is home to a diverse community of families, seniors and individuals - many of whom face financial hardship and food insecurity.  During the height of Covid in 2020/2021, we noticed a significant increase of residents stopping by our office needing food.

We reached out to the Landlord Coordinator for Dakota County who then connected us with Neighbor's Inc.  Together, we started small - a few boxes of food delivered a couple times a week set out front of the leasing office.  The need quickly grew.  Soon, lines of residents wrapped around the parking lot waiting for food.

When our community room sat empty during COVID we decided to use that as our makeshift food pantry space so residents could safely and consistently access free food. That effort evolved into what is now the Holiday Acres Express Food Shelf - a fully remodeled, grocery store style space with refrigerators, freezers, shelving made possible with a Dakota County SHIP Grant.

Today, we serve hundreds of residents every week - not just from Holiday Acres, but from surrounding apartment communities as well.  What started as a few boxes of food has become a lifeline for families, seniors and individuals in need.
