The past 2 years have made a lot of us reflect on what is truly important to us. The volunteer work I do with Smile Network International is truly a gift in my life.
I have had the privilege over the past 10 years to travel with Smile Network to 4 different countries around the world on 9 surgical missions to help change the lives of children born with cleft lip and cleft palate. A child born with a cleft in an impoverished country faces malnutrition, stigma and possibly death all due to a congenital anomaly that can easily be repaired in as little as 45 minutes and for only $500!
Due to the global COVID 19 pandemic Smile Network International was forced to suspend all mission travel and they made the decision to redistribute all PPE and medical supplies to local hospitals and clinics in need. It is now time to start to rebuild those supplies and prepare for the return to mission work. As the world opens up, humanitarian travel will once again be possible. Plans are underway to continue the work of providing free surgeries to children born with cleft lips and cleft palates around the globe.
This September I have the opportunity to participate in an amazing adventure. I will be walking a portion of the Camino de Santiago in Spain to help raise awareness and funds to support Smile Network. I will be covering all my own expenses related to this trip but need your help to reach my goal of raising $2500 to provide surgery to 5 children.
