$6,000 goal

While we love history as much as the next guy, I’m sure we all could have done with a little less history-making this year.  Still, historic times call for historic measures, so we tightened our belts, gathered our volunteers (virtually, of course) and came up with initiatives that made history accessible both online and in-person by...

  • Adding hundreds of digital images of artifacts and photos to our online exhibit on MNCollections.org, for all the world to see.
  • Collecting your memories and sharing historic images of Excelsior's Water Street through "Water Street Wednesdays" on Facebook and Instagram.
  • Creating a virtual Lake Minnetonka History Tour in partnership with other lake area societies. New distanced walking tours of Excelsior's historic Water Street and Oak Hill Cemetery are in the works too.
  • Commemorating the centennial of women’s suffrage with Votes for Women: Minnesota and the 19th Amendment, our first online presentation, co-produced with Hennepin County Library Excelsior.
  • Moving our seasonal, recently re-designed Museum and our research Archives to an appointment-only format.

This years’ pandemic forced us to cancel income producing activities including our annual fundraiser, Tapping History, our Summer History Cruises and our Lake Minnetonka History Camp. We need your help to raise $6,000 to help make up the revenue lost from the unavoidable cancellation of these events. These dollars fund our necessities such as archival supplies, staff, rent, and more.

Please help us continue to collect, preserve, and share our community's history for today and future generations by making a donation today!
