I was first introduced to The Link while I searching for my first internship placement in the Master's of Social Work Program at the University of Saint Thomas. The Link was one of the last places I had applied to. At the time I interviewed, I did not know much about the The Link, but by the end of the interview, I knew in my gut, this is where I wanted to be placed. I was beyond ecstatic when I got the confirmation that I would get the opportunity to intern at this incredible organization, I am currently doing my placement in the CORE drop in center in Apple Valley. One angle is pictured above, but believe me, there is a more stuff and area to that room, as well as a youth room area.
Not only is it an incredible learning opportunity, it is a cause and a population that I hold close to my heart. I was once a youth experiencing homelessness in Dakota county. I wish that I had a program, like The Link, around to help me through that time. I now have the opportunity to give back and for me, that means more than just being an intern for a school program.
The Link, and myself, believe that every youth deserves second chances, stability, housing, equity and justice. We believe that the youth we work with are resilient and resourceful. They are brilliant and creative. They possess the skills and the tools to resolve whatever situation they are dealing with. The Link is dedicated to be there every step of the way to support that growth. Whether that is support through navigating/exiting the criminal justice system, building housing stability, or shelter under Safe Harbor. We aim to support youth in creating stability and aiming for a bright future. We also have many programs that are aimed towards prevention of homelessness, exploitation, and involvement of the criminal justice system, We believe that if we can end these problems in youth, it would drop these problems in adults. The goal is to end these problems for youth, therefore working ourselves out of a job. We rely heavily on donations to make this work happen. Give to the Max is a time where we can raise much needed funds to continue the work that we do. I am asking you, to help me, be a part of that. Every donation counts, large or small. Please help us continue the great work The Link does! Thank you!
