For my birthday I want to support Safe Haven in Duluth as a small way to help those in need.

First, THANK YOU for coming to this fundraiser! My goal with this is to give back to those affected by domestic violence. I'm fortunate to have no personal experience with domestic violence or abuse but can imagine the trauma and negative consequences that can come from it. I feel lucky to have a lot of things in life and want to help those that are in need. I believe Safe Haven will achieve this by providing a safe place for women and children that need it most in the Duluth community. Here are a few facts from Safe Haven website

-1 in 3 women and gender minorities in Minnesota will be subjected to physical violence, sexual violence, and/or stalking by an intimate partner in their lifetime.

-Every 15 seconds a woman is battered in the United States.

-1,876 victims & survivors were assisted by Safe Haven Shelter and Resource Center in 2016.

The most influential statistic on a personal level that influenced my decision to choose Safe Haven is from this Runner's World Article

-43 percent of women at least sometimes experience harassment on the run, according to a recent RW survey, compared with just 4 percent of men.
