In memory of Dick Stafford, who passed away early Thursday morning February 24th during heart surgery, the Woodbury Community Foundation has created the Dick Stafford Memorial Fund at his personal request and the request of his family.
Dick Stafford was the founder of the Woodbury Community Foundation, which began as the Friends of Woodbury in 2003. He was a community servant who knew how to create partnerships and surround himself with other great leaders. He loved serving in local government, having been a Washington County Commissioner for seven years and Washington County Auditor-Treasurer from 1974-1999.
Dick was chosen as Woodbury’s Citizen of the Year by the Woodbury Chamber of Commerce in 1987 and 2002. His civic engagement included the YMCA, Woodbury Lions Club, Woodbury Yellow Ribbon Committee, Woodbury Ambulance Council, American Legion, Woodbury Chamber of Commerce, and the Woodbury Lions Veterans Memorial Council – several of which he helped found.
In addition, Dick served on the Law Library Board, Legislative Committee, Public Health Advisory Committee, Regional Rail Authority Board, Association of Minnesota Counties Board, East Metro Radio Communications Board, Metropolitan Energy Task Force, Metropolitan Inter-County Association, Metropolitan Radio Board, Metropolitan 9-1-1 Board, Ramsey/Washington Resource Recovery Joint Powers Board, as well as the Regional Solid Waste Management Coordination Board.
He will be greatly missed by so many. Thank you for your contributions!
