Dakota City 2026 GTMD - Event Equipment Fundraiser

Dakota City Heritage Village is excited to be part of Minnesota’s Give to the Max Day, November 19, 2026. This year, Dakota City is hoping to raise $3,500 for the acquisition of portable tables and chairs for events and educational opportunities within the village. Lightweight, portable and durable equipment, will allow Dakota City to accommodate more visitors to events and experiences which aim to showcase the history of rural Dakota County life in the late 1800s and early 1900s.

Dakota City Heritage Village connects, through education and interpretation, current generations to the life and agricultural heritage of early twentieth century rural Dakota County. Our village, named Dakota City after the original platted town on the Vermillion River, was established in 1978 and is located on the Dakota County Fairgrounds.

Present day Dakota City depicts life in a small Minnesota village from 1857 to early 1900’s. 22 buildings, including an operational blacksmith shop, newspaper office, train depot and family homes, represent the agricultural, business and social center of a rural 1900-era community. 

Live interpretations and demonstrations can be experienced during living history events throughout the year, especially during the Dakota County Fair in August and Christmas in the Village, which takes place the first two weekends of December. Group tours, special programs, birthday parties and weddings can be scheduled by appointment. 

Dakota City’s Ahlberg Hall Museum features exhibits relating to rural life, and an  extensive collection of tractors and other agricultural equipment dating before 1950 are on display.

Give to the Max’s Early Giving period begins November 1 and the campaign culminates on Give to the Max Day, Thursday, November 19. Each donation through GiveMN.org qualifies Dakota City for additional grants from the Give to the Max Day prize pool, thanks to the continued generosity of the Bush Foundation. Early giving prizes include $500 daily golden tickets, plust additional prizes every 15 minutes on November 19, and more!
