White Privilege is a series of vignettes performed by both white and black actors. It explores a wide range of different issues, such as micro-aggressions, cultural appropriation, the education system, police brutality and history. The show, which is performed in two acts with one intermission, engages and informs the audience with genuine passion and compassion. It helps the audience to understand that white privilege exists: this is not a commentary that is ‘anti-white,’ but rather a commentary on how people perceive each other.

Malaina Moore, a Milwaukee native, is a young, emerging playwright and actor, majoring in Theatre Arts and minoring in Social Justice at Marquette University. Her writing career began as a student at Rufus King International High School when her one act play was chosen for the Milwaukee Chamber Theatre’s Young Playwrights Festival. Her second play, White Privilege had major box office success at both Marquette University and the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival in Madison, WI. The impactful play has also been performed for a large gathering of law enforcement officers. On stage Ms. Moore has starred in White Privilege, Image of an Unknown Young Woman and Peter and the Starcatcher. Upon graduation, she plans to pursue a lifelong career in acting and play writing.

Ms. Moore was inspired to write the play White Privilege after seeing a Facebook post that sparked discussion about what the term means to different people. Her play examines how the color of one’s skin can lead to a very different experience of the world.

Justin Cervantes has performed with Chain Reaction Theatre Project for the past two seasons, and he is excited to direct his first production with the company. Other directing credits include the Northfield Arts Guild, Eagan Theatre Company, Park Theatre, Lakeshore Players Theatre, among others.

In addition to CRTP, other acting credits include Chameleon Theatre Circle and CLIMB Theatre. Justin is going into his fifth year of living in the Twin Cities and is thrilled to be a part of this wonderful theatre community!
