MELA to the MAX! Help Our School Raise Money for a Playground and a Library

Minnesota Excellence in Learning Academy (MELA: http://www.mnela.org/) is a public charter school serving approximately 200 students in PreK through grade 6 from North Minneapolis up through Maple Grove. We are committed to social justice and the elevation of access and achievement in underserved communities. Our mission is to support each child in becoming an engaged and curious learner, a confident self-advocate, and a creative problem-solver by setting high expectations and nurturing a positive culture that honors diversity, collaboration, and optimism.

Playground: "Play is disappearing at home, at school, and in communities, particularly for the 14 million children living in poverty." Our school currently does not have a playground. The organization KaBOOM! (https://kaboom.org) has approved us for one, but unfortunately, we have been waiting for over a year for a donor to provide the $100,000 it costs to transport and install.

Library: "Did you know that 65% of America’s fourth graders do not read at a proficient level and that one out of six children who do not read at age level by the end of third grade will not graduate from high school?" In order to develop a love of reading with students, classroom teachers at MELA buy their own books to support small personal classroom libraries. MELA is looking to raise funds of $150,000 in order to purchase a variety of books that will support our entire population as well as bookshelves to organize a fiction and non-fiction collection.

Thank you in advance for your generous donation to the Minnesota Excellence in Learning Academy. Know that your contribution is making a significant difference in the life of a child.
