The work I do is part of the Youth Advocacy Division which provides positive alternative programs for youth in the juvenile justice system, The School Matters program that I lead increases youth school attendance rates, prevents them from dropping out of school, and helps them achieve the ultimate goal of high school graduation!     

Imagine not knowing where you were going to sleep at night. Imagine if you had no food in your house and had no idea when your next meal would be. Imagine if the only way your mom could keep her job is if you stay home to make sure your younger sibling gets on the bus. Now imagine how you would go to school regularly. These are not made up scenarios but actual events the youth in School Matters experience every day. No young person should have to deal with this. Our program helps youth and parents overcome these barriers so they can have their childhood back and work towards a promising and productive adulthood.
