We're getting our new home ready. Your support helps make a backyard for our programs and community.

$8,200 goal

Gratitude to you, our community, for your support. Our original goal of $6,500 was met and our hearts are full. At this moment in time, we're also hoping to reach our stretch goal. An additional $1,700 would allow us to install a cistern that catches rainwater from our roof, allowing us to reuse it to water plants that we store for our raingarden and native planting projects. Join us in creating a demonstration space to inspire and welcome our community!

Metro Blooms has been serving our communities since 1979, establishing roots through partnership and resilient landscapes. We’re centered in Minneapolis and for years made our home in a leased office in a community center, sharing space with other organizations, a school, and public services.

Like a healthy plant with clean water and good light, we’ve outgrown that starter pot and reached a need to be rooted right into the soil, in the community that we have been a part of for the past 40 years.

We’re on a path to grow our mission work substantially. This work is built with community, inspired by the values of social justice and resilience. To get there it'll take more direct access to our project equipment, a community space to facilitate workshops and training, and office space for our growing staff. We also must look to the future to know we are investing resources where they can make the biggest impact.

Since 2017 our Board of Directors has worked with staff, volunteers, advisors, and community to find the right space to support our work. Investing in ownership now stabilizes our costs, eliminates our ongoing rent expense, and locates us in the community from which we provide our services.

We’ve found our new home.

We’ve purchased a building at 3747 Cedar Avenue in Minneapolis. It’s the right space, affordable and with great potential for our work. It keeps us in south central Minneapolis, just blocks from our previous home in Sabathani Community Center. Completing renovations to make it a safe, functional and inspirational space for us will take the support of our community.

With your support we can turn our new backyard into a space that meets the needs of Metro Blooms and our 38th Street community. It will be a space for staff and neighbors to work safely outdoors, create a demonstration landscape for training and learning, and meet our functional needs for equipment storage and access. And, of course,  it will be designed and installed with practices including native plants and permeable pavement to support clean water and urban habitat. With your help we will raise the $6,500 needed to apply for a matching local government grant to fund this backyard space.

The first $1,000 in gifts to this project will be matched by a generous donor so your gift goes even further in making this new space happen for south central Minneapolis. Please make a gift of ANY size and then spread the word that you've committed to this project, to build our space and our mission. Together we can make this happen!

*If you'd prefer to make a donation by check, you can mail the check to Metro Blooms, P.O. Box 17099, Minneapolis, MN 55417. Please put Give to the Max Day on the memo line.
