Recently, ASDC has developed a new equity-based model for creating new work. In current times, fraught with anxiety over COVID-19, economic and racial injustice, and the ongoing fight for queer rights, it is difficult for dancers to carve out time and emotional space to be vulnerable amidst the demands of their day jobs and regular lives. An in-depth residency, remote from “real-world” pressures, allows for deep investigation of content building the groundwork for meaningful collaboration. The traditional method is to rent short-term rehearsal spaces for brief periods scattered throughout the week. It’s not fair to ask artists to shift gears daily from deep vulnerability to the pressures of the outside world in their roles as parent, partner, or citizen. This model grants a temporary reprieve from survival jobs by compensating artists for focused work, creating a more equitable model for creative process.
Next the final performance and tour of Rumble Strips will be in Port Townsend WA presented by Key City Public Theater. Rumble Strips is about Joy! Give the Gift of Rumble Strips.
Finally as ASDC approaches our 25th anniversary, we are planning our most ambitious project yet: Born to Love Again: ASDC by Bus, will tour ten rural and suburban towns in Minnesota, showcasing a mixture of dance works over ASDC’s history. The anniversary tour will include a one-week residency in each town
We need your help to equitably close the gap. Your support will go directly to paying artists for their time.
