In 2016 we conducted a gun buy back to get weapons off the street in partnership with MPD and the Mayor of Minneapolis. We broke the weapons down and passed them out to artists to create works of art that would raise awareness in the issue of gun violence and honor those lost to the issue. We were able to curate 4 full exhibitions and build 5 community benches that included up to 15 youth artists and 30 or more adult artists ranging from 7 years old to 78 years old.

We engaged more than 250 young people in workshops, conversations around trauma, coping, social and emotional learning and artistic processes. We practiced vital resource and referral with partnering social service agencies of serve young people that presented needs. We have come to a point where we are all out of decommissioned parts. In order for us to continue this work using the decommissioned gun parts and get more weapons off the street we need to conduct another buy back.

To offer the stipends needed in exchange for weapons we need to raise funds. Take a look at some of the amazing work artists have created over the years. Please consider donating to the cause so we can continue to engage young people, survivors and victims of gun violence, city and state officials and community as a whole in using art as a catalyst for change. This fund will also be able to cover emergency needs for victims of gun crimes who are in immediate need of assistance.
