Our mission at Anda Flamenco is to expand our community's exposure to, appreciation and understanding of, and participation in the art of flamenco dance, music and song. Our goal is to maintain the richness and integrity of traditional Spanish flamenco as it continues to evolve and change with the demands and realities of the 21st century.
Committed to sharing the exuberance and joy of flamenco with diverse Minnesota audiences, Artistic Director Kristina de Sacramento and the members of Anda Flamenco Company perform regularly in restaurants and cabarets, on street corners, in grocery stores, and in senior residences, as well as in more formal theatrical settings.
Community Outreach - Kristina de Sacramento has been seriously committed to community outreach since she founded the company in 2002. Kristina worked for six years at Capistrant, the Parkinson’s arm of Bethesda, teaching the Mark Morris program, "Dance for PD." She then developed a castanet classciriculum that was a great for the PD students, and lead to performances that jazzed them all up! Kristina went on to receive a scholarship from Artsage for a year-long study of how to further develop her teaching skills to incorporate a wider range of aging communities, and she enjoys putting all this knowledge to use in many senior residences throughout the metro area. Assisted by Anda Company members, Kristina also brought the experience of flamenco directly into the rooms of hospitalized children in Minnesota Children's Hospitals in Minneapolis and St. Paul for 12 years under the auspices of Breanna's Gift, an amazing non-profit that brings direct access to art programs for patients and family into hospital rooms across the Twin Cities,
Educational Outreach - "Poquito y Bueno," Kristina’s half-hour bi-monthly worldwide flamenco webcast, premiered in April 2009 on KFAI, Fresh Air Radio. When KFAI began web-only programming, they chose Poquito y Bueno as one of the first two webcasts to pioneer this new programming decision. Soon to be in her 16th year of production, Kristina still creates, hosts, and engineers the only English-language, educational flamenco music show on the internet.
Traditional Flamenco Training - Anda Flamenco School offers training in traditional, authentic flamenco dance to students ranging ifrom pre-school through late adulthood.
We at Anda Flamenco thank you sincerely for your continued support of our company, our school, and our mission to continue to share the beauty, the passion, and the life lessons of flamenco with the people of Minnesota.
First, I want to extend our heartfelt gratitude to all of you who donated to Anda Flamenco last year! WITHOUT YOUR SUPPORT IN 2023, WE WOULD NOT BE HERE THIS YEAR WRITING TO YOU, ASKING YOU TO RENEW THAT SUPPORT FOR YET ANOTHER YEAR! (That's a bit of a mixed blessing for you, no???) But this year, I have decided to abandon “fundraiser speak” and to write directly to you all as me, Kristina De Sacramento, founder and artistic director of Anda Flamenco. Directly from my heart to yours!
Many of you have been with Anda since we became a company in 2002. Some of you even began studying with me in 1995. Some of you I’ve met along the way on Anda's long flamenco journey. Some of you have family or friends who’ve just started studying with us. And some of you helped us when we teaching your mom, to her sheer delight, how to play castanets at the age of 85 in her senior residence! And then there are some of you who just happened upon us at a community flamenco performance. Anda is so lucky that you have become part our family, and I want you to know that your support keeps us inspired!
You may ask "How and why does an aging group of Americans keep working so hard on their flamenco chops when most folks their age are happy to hang out with the grandkids?" Well for one thing, it's more fun going to the gym for exercise...but seriously, five of Anda's company members are in their seventies, there are two in their sixties, and our "baby" is in her late forties? (And most of our students are in the same age range as well…) We all do this because flamenco bit us hard in our behinds at sometime in our lives, and we’re all the type of folks who don’t ignore a “butt bite” when we're lucky enough to get one. So here we all are - still studying, still learning, still rehearsing, still laughing and being one happy family, sharing our profound love for this wonderful Spanish gypsy art form with kids from 4 to 104! Seriously, it's doesn't get any better than this.
Well actually yes, it can get a little better with YOUR HELP! You can help assure that we can continue to maintain our incredible studio space for yet one more year! And that local, national, and international artists can also use this wonderful space to hold their workshops and have rehearsals for their community performances.
At Anda Flamenco, we very hopeful that we can find new and creative ways to bolster the income of our Company and School in 2025. (And if you have any ideas, please - we’d love to hear them!) Anda is not a company that relies upon grants - we rely upon you! We couldn’t continue without the continued support we receive from you - our friends, our family, our fans…our flamenco community! So I am humbly asking you to please make another donation to Anda Flamenco this year - no matter how small you think it may be! All of your contributions will go toward our ability to stay in our studio, to pay our staff, to augment our roster of classes and our number of students, and to provide new and exciting opportunities for Anda Flamenco to share the joy and vibrancy of flamenco with our friends and families, and our community!
Kristina de Sacramento, Anda Flamenco Company, and the students of Anda Flamenco School thank you so much for your continued generosity!
