Help us support youth programs this fall.
We've had some unfortunate news this week. Over the weekend, our center was broken into, and several pieces of vital equipment, including iPads used by our students, were stolen. The loss of these tools – worth about $3,000 – has created a significant setback for our programs.
826 MSP is an arts education nonprofit which amplifies the voices of historically marginalized youth. Our mission is to empower underserved K-12 students to think creatively, write effectively, and succeed academically alongside a community of caring volunteers. We facilitate free youth writing, tutoring, publishing and leadership programs in schools, out of schools, and through distance learning.
We were established in 2009 in response to the educational opportunity gaps which persist in Minnesota due to systemic racism. To diminish these barriers, we connect a racially, culturally, and linguistically diverse array of young writers with 100 trained volunteers and professional artists each year, creating opportunities for positive relationships which span generations and cultures.
To date, we’ve served more than 8,500 Twin Cities youth, publishing thousands of poems, short stories, essays, and illustrations. As one of nine chapters in the largest network of youth writing centers in the country, 826 National, we reach readers and collaborate with communities nation-wide.
