As many of you know, our little Alex recently started at Northern Voices, an oral preschool for kids with hearing loss learning to use their cochlear implants. At Northern Voices, Alexandra is immersed in a fun educational environment with her peers and also receives 45-60 minutes of individual speech therapy each day. These speech therapy sessions are play-based and give Alex a chance to practice both listening and spoken language.
While we were nervous about enrolling her during the pandemic, we were quickly reassured -- Alex is thriving and learning new words each and every day. She waits by the door each morning for Will to give her a ride to school. Our hope is that early, intense intervention will give Alex the best chance of success not only in a mainstream educational setting, but throughout her life.
The Gorman family will be participating in the "Walk for Talk 2021" -- a walk-a-thon fundraiser to help with the cost of tuition and programming -- on May 22nd. Any sponsorship funds you might be willing to donate would be much appreciated! A portion of funds raised will go directly towards Alex's tuition. We have set an initial goal of $500 which would be a one-week scholarship at her school.
