Update #2
Our explorations this year
Over the past twelve months, Agate has explored the return of bison to Dakota County’s Spring Lake Park Reserve, ecological changes in the Mississippi river, surprising news about wolves, and some of the ways in which Minnesota’s attempts to protect our natural resources are breaking down, along with suggestions about how to improve that work.
There are many more stories to be told. If you’d like to help support Agate’s work in exploring and celebrating our region, this is a great time of year to make a donation. Thank you!

Agate Magazine is named for the Lake Superior agate—a complex, beautiful stone that, like our magazine, reflects the unique character of this special place.
Agate brings the reader along as it unravels nature's complexities, investigates environmental issues, and celebrates the deep affection of residents for this landscape and its wildlife. With a blend of literary and journalistic writing, stunning photography, audio and multi-media stories, Agate illuminates the natural world here in the "Near North."
