For those of you who don't know the Minnesota Center for Environmental Advocacy, allow me to introduce you to the small but mighty St.Paul-based nonprofit I've been proudly working for for the past year and a half.

If you care about clean water, air and land, healthy communities, environmental justice, thriving wildlife, protecting the Bold North, and curbing the worst impacts of our climate crisis, then you care about the work MCEA is doing everyday on behalf of Minnesota.

At it's simplest, MCEA is an environmental advocacy organization staffed with top-notch lawyers and advocates who work to make sure our state laws protect and respect the health of our environment and communities, and that everyone, including big utility companies and state agencies, follow them.

My colleagues are brilliant and devoted, and integral to MCEA's successful track record. Our work is funded by private donations, so we can't do it without people like you who care about what we do and support it with a financial contribution.

It allows MCEA to be a watchdog at the legislature, where truly bad legislation can come out of nowhere, often buried in dense language, or a larger bill, unless someone is there to call it out.

It allows MCEA to be in the courts, sometimes even the Minnesota Supreme Court, when our state agencies aren't doing their job, or polluters try to skirt the law.

It allows MCEA to be productive behind the scenes, whether it's working to ensure greenhouse gases are counted in our state's environment review process, or serving on local drainage working groups that protect our beloved lakes' water quality.

It's also allowed MCEA to stop the proposed sulfide-copper PolyMet mine in the Lake Superior watershed in its tracks, and positioned us to keep fighting the reckless proposal until the corrupt corporation behind it packs up and moves on

MCEA is also on the front-lines of combatting the climate crisis by helping to retire coal plants; making sure those coal plants aren't replaced by fracked gas plants; working on transmission capacity so we can fully utilize the endless wind energy of southern Minnesota; and working with a climate caucus to create impactful legislation that will make Minnesota a leader in fighting climate change.

This doesn't even cover it all. Suffice it to say that MCEA is doing a lot of critical work on behalf of all of us. If you're able, please consider making a donation today so we can keep doing it. It would mean so much. The folks coming after us, including my little guy James Wilder - who just turned 1 last month! -- are depending on us. Thank you!
