QV’s mission is to provide accessible and varied programming as a shared resource for 2SLGBTQIA+ lives and the writers & readers living them. In 1993, founding co-curators Andrea Jenkins and John Medeiros launched Queer Voices as a reading series offering Queer writers a platform to share their work with public audiences. It remains a wonderful space for Queer writers to introduce their work to readers and receive immediate feedback for new material. Since 2019, QV has been actively expanding its engagement to include publishing Queer writers in anthologies, facilitating writing retreats, hosting Queer arts markets, leading panel discussions on queerness and the craft of writing, and organizing generative writing circles.
We are inclusive of ALL Queer and gender identities as we continue to strengthen our vision to nourish writers in new and impactful ways. Along with our continued programming, in 2026 you can expect new writing workshops and a big, bold Queer Voices Pride Show at Red Eye Theater!
This period of culture wars, where our existence is heavily litigated and policed, is a time when we need reminders of our resilience, humanity, and humor as we live and thrive. Queer voices creates 2SLGBTQIA+ literary spaces that are interdependent, intergenerational, multidisciplinary, and multi-racial.
Across all of our work, we advocate for economic justice for Queer artists, so that teaching artists, readers, panelists, anthology contributors, and the curatorial team are paid for their time and talents to sustain the work we do. Now, as much as ever, safe Queer gathering spaces for artistic enrichment and community building are an imperative priority.
