10th Wave - Give to the Max 2022

10th Wave Chamber Music Collective is a Twin Cities-based instrumental ensemble that performs new classical music by living, underrepresented, and/or local composers at no cost and in ADA compliant spaces. We place artists of color and artists who have been historically excluded from Western Classical music at the forefront of our leadership and programming. Formed in December 2017, 10th Wave is composed of conservatory-trained professional musicians including but not limited to: percussion, marimba, clarinet, violin, viola, cello, double bass, piano, flute, and voice. 10th Wave prides itself in being a musician-led diverse ensemble with 7 out of 9 of musicians identifying as BIPOC (44% Asian American, 22% African American, 11% mixed ethnicity, 22% white) and 2 members identifying as LGBTQIA2+.

Each musician also serves as an administrator for the ensemble as it is important for us to be directly involved in all aspects of our organization. We work together to carry out tasks such as:

• writing our own grants
• curating unique programs
• reaching out to collaborators
• managing our financial state
• researching repertoire
• finding accessible and interesting venues

Much of this happens via weekly meetings among our admin teams: 

Development, Marketing, Production & Collaborations, and Finance. 

Our perspectives are unique and relevant to addressing social issues and conflicts that have had a direct impact on our lives as artists.

These are some long-term wish list ideas 10th Wave would love to implement into our organization:

• 1 non-grant-funded self-produced concert each year
• MN Composers Series featuring new music by local composers
• a budget to support our administrative roles in addition to performing
• funding to purchase our own Vibraphone!
• developing educational programs for k-12 students

Our 2022-2023 concert season centers around new compositions for different instrument groups:

Concert #1- Percussion Feature

December 17th & 18th, 2022 - Studio Z: This concert will feature percussionists from 10th Wave & Zeitgeist who will perform compositions written by all female composers: Victoriah Cheah, Angelica Negron, Shruthi Rajasekar, Yvonne Wu, and Molly Joyce.

Concert #2- String Feature

March 10th, 2023 - Fridays in the Valley Series: This concert will feature our string musicians who will perform exhilarating pieces written by Jessie Montgomery, Erberk Eryilmaz, Shelley Washington, and Xavier Foley. 

Concert #3- Wind Feature

TBD 2023, MetroNome Brewery: This concert will feature our wind musicians who will perform thrilling compositions by Ivan Trevino, Reinaldo Moya, Valerie Coleman, Peter Klatzow, and Shawn Okpebholo.

Our conscientious efforts at planning meaningful programs and creating a collaborative rehearsal environment among our artistic partners sets 10th Wave apart in forging an inclusive pathway in the performing arts.
