What is the most common birth defect in the world?

Nearly one in 100 children is born with a congenital heart defect (CHD), the most common birth defect in the world.  

Once considered a death sentence, many kids with severe congenital heart defects go on to live entirely normal lives thanks to modern medical interventions.  

Despite this medical miracle, only one in ten children with a heart defect receives the required medical care they need, especially in low resource settings.  

In Yunnan and Gansu provinces in China, for example, despite advances in pediatric cardiac care in the region, many parents are still unaware that their children even have a heart defect. 

This is where One Heart Health comes in.  One Heart Health has developed the technology to diagnose heart defects, on-site, using a mobile technology developed by experienced biomedical scientists.  You can see the smart phone technology in use, in the photo above.

Already more than 26,000 children from 150 villages have received heart screenings from One Heart Health, resulting in 25 children receiving life-saving surgery.
