On the 85th anniversary of Alice T. Larsen's birth, a scholarship for an ACDA-MN woman conductor will be established in her memory

Alice T. Larsen Memorial Scholarship

In celebration of the 85th anniversary of Alice T. Larsen’s birthday, the Alice T. Larsen Memorial Scholarship campaign commenced in 2013.  Donations will continue to be accepted until the campaign reaches its goal of $25,000.  The Alice T. Larsen Memorial Scholarship will be awarded in the future to an ACDA-MN woman conductor who is pursuing a graduate degree in choral conducting.

  • You are invited to make a tax-deductible contribution ($10 minimum for an on-line donation) to the Alice T. Larsen Memorial Scholarship project. 
  • All scholarship donor names were printed in the 2013 FMC Endowment Fund’s Annual Report.
  • Donations are welcome during 2014 and in the future to sustain this scholarship.

The 2013 ACDA-MN State Conference celebrated women's voices and the trail-blazing choral music legacy of conductor Alice T. Larsen.   Edith Copley, from Northern Arizona University, guest conducted a special ACDA-MN Grade 12 Select Women’s Choir and presented interest sessions at the conference. The showcase concert featured the Manitou Singers from St. Olaf College (Sigrid Johnson, director), the ACDA-MN Grade 12 Select Women’s Choir and the combined women’s voices of Chanhassen, Wayzata and White Bear Lake High Schools. 

 

Alice T. Larsen (1929-2004)

  • Professor of music at St. Olaf College from 1955-1989
  • Conductor of the Manitou Singers, professor of voice, teacher of vocal pedagogy classes and occasional guest conductor of The St. Olaf Choir
  • Conductor of the Minnesota All-State Choir in 1981
  • Conductor of All-State Choirs in Colorado, New Mexico, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wyoming
  • Recipient of the F. Melius Christiansen Lifetime Achievement Award (1992) presented by ACDA-MN
  • Recipient of the Minnesota Music Educators’ Hall of Fame Award (1997)
  • Recipient of the Weston H. Noble Lifetime Achievement Award (2004) presented by the ACDA North Central Division
