Why Donate to Battle Creek Middle School Library?
Battle Creek Middle School supports the St. Paul Public School District’s focus of literacy. The 2016-2017 school year is the first year in many that Battle Creek Middle School has a school librarian.
Our students' daily lives are enriched with the stories found inside current, relevant and challenging books! Our intent is to bring literacy to life by giving our library a much needed makeover. With the help of our new Library Media Specialist, we plan to continue to make our library a welcoming space for all students. Please help the library by supporting our commitment to literacy.
What do students and teachers say about the books in the library?
Students want new, relevant, challenging books to read. “Our nonfiction books are old. The information is outdated and not useful. The better the books, the more we learn, the smarter we get.” -Jerry, 8th grade
Students are noticing that the library space is changing. "Last year it was dead in here. It was just for books. This year [the posters and the space] tell you to explore your mind. The posters are motivating." -Savior, 8th grade
"Newer books have more unique stories. Kids are more attracted to and interested in them." -Kharme, 8th grade
"Students love the smell of new books. If only they had more opportunity to experience it." -Ms. Quam, ELA Teacher
“Battle Creek Middle School is a very diverse school. Unfortunately, our collection does not represent the students. Students should have more opportunities to read mirrors (to be able to see themselves in the story) as opposed to reading only windows (looking out, seeing others)”. -Ms. Orensten, Librarian
'The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go." - Dr. Seuss
