The mission of New Orleans Area Habitat for Humanity is to responsibly build communities where families can thrive, in homes they can afford.

For more than 40 years, New Orleans Area Habitat for Humanity has transformed communities and lives and evolved from modest beginnings to an area-leading development company. New Orleans Habitat has been a leader in disaster relief and recovery, especially in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. Since then, New Orleans Habitat has built more than 750 safe, affordable homes, completed nearly 500 home repairs, and has monumental projects like Rising Oaks underway.

RISING OAKS:

Rising Oaks is an affordable housing community in Jefferson Parish, a model for urban development. Through our First-Time Homebuyer Program, Rising Oaks will offer a total of 150 affordable housing units - 100 high-quality residential units - a mix of two-, three-, and four-bedroom single-family homes and 50 cottage-style homes to fulfill regional needs for senior housing options. The community, located on a golf course that has been vacant for more than 20 years, emphasizes green spaces and walkable access to healthcare, schools, jobs, bus lines, grocery stores, and other services.

Testimonials

"Habitat's Rising Oaks development offers the interconnected, effective solutions needed to address the lack of affordable housing for essential ALICE (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed) workers in the region while providing access to quality health and critical services necessary for long-term prosperity." - Michael Williamson, United Way of Southeast Louisiana President & CEO
