Stewarding the Superior National Forest

Caring for Our Public Lands

The Superior National Forest and Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness are some of Minnesota’s most treasured public lands. Keeping trails clear, campsites safe, and habitats healthy takes more hands than ever. Friends of the Superior National Forest steps in, connecting volunteers, community partners, and the U.S. Forest Service to sustain these wild places for everyone.

Filling Critical Gaps

Our volunteers maintain trails, restore habitats, and care for forest resources, filling essential gaps as Forest Service resources dwindle. Every boardwalk repaired, trail cleared, and native plant restored protects the forest for current visitors and future generations.

Proven Impact

Since our founding, volunteers have:

  • Contributed thousands of hours to stewardship projects
  • Maintained hundreds of miles of trail
  • Removed invasive species and restored acres of forest habitat

In 2026, we’re expanding our projects across even more trails, portages, and campsites, and we need your help to make it happen.

Your Gift Matters

Your donation this Give to the Max Day helps unlock grant funds, purchase tools and safety gear, and support volunteers in the field. Every gift strengthens trails, protects wilderness areas, and ensures that public lands remain healthy and accessible.
