Help Bring Home the Tradition
UPDATE: We did it!
Thanks to your generous contributions, we're on our way to the All-Ireland Fleadh in August! In less than 10 days we met our Board Challenge Match, securing the resources we need to send our talented and intrepid executive director Norah Rendell to accompany and coach 18 of CIM's young musicians at the world's best and biggest festival of traditional Irish music.
Go raibh maith agat!
Donations received at this GiveMN page through the end of our fiscal year July 31, 2017 will now help to support additional student scholarships, low-cost instrument rentals, and public programs that reach nearly 15,000 music lovers every year. Private contributions from people like you help to pay for nearly 20 percent of our annual operations, helping to ensure that we're here to "hand down the tradition" for many years to come.
Students at The Center for Irish Music played their hearts out at the Midwest Fleadh Cheoil in St. Louis in May, earning first and second place honors in all three of the highly competitive group competitions (1st place-U18 grupa vheoil; 1st place-U15 ceili band; and 2nd place-U18 ceili band), while bringing home an astonishing 35 medals from dozens of solo competitions.
Now with 18 student musicians and their families on their way to the All-Ireland Fleadh in Ennis, the CIM’s Board of Directors is committed to sending our talented and intrepid executive director Norah Rendell to be by their side as they bring home the tradition. From now until July 15, every dollar you donate to this effort will be matched dollar for dollar by a $3,500 Board Challenge Match.
Over the last several years, we’ve been thrilled to see many talented CIM students make the trip to play in Ireland on their own. Now with three full “teams” of ensemble players, the time is right to make this leap together as a community music school, and introduce our student musicians to the Irish tradition where it lives. Playing together, we’ll experience traditional Irish music in its full social context, we’ll learn from master artists from around the world, and we’ll bring home new tunes and new stories we know we’ll be playing and telling for years to come.
Thank you for all you do to help us “hand down the tradition” every day at the Center for Irish Music!
