Description

Bloodworks Northwest is an independent, nonprofit organization with a mission to save lives. Our recent name change (formerly Puget Sound Blood Center) reflects the growing geographic areas served. Founded in 1944, BloodworksNW has a longstanding partnership with thousands of volunteers who generously donate their blood and time to save thousands of lives each year. In addition, our cord blood and bone marrow programs help increase the worldwide odds of patients who need a match. Regionally, BloodworksNW is known for its excellence in blood services. In King County alone, we provide lifesaving blood products to 20 hospitals including UW Medicine, Swedish Medical Center, Virginia Mason Medical Center, Group Health, and Seattle Children's. As a Seattle resident, if you or a loved one ever need a transfusion, chances are we collected, tested, and processed it. Nationally and internationally, BloodworksNW is recognized for its medical research in transfusion medicine, blood clots, bleeding disorders, and blood storage. Our discoveries have led to increased life expediencies for hemophilia patients by 30 years, safer transfusions for all ER patients, and more accessibility to treatments for patients in remote areas. Our current endeavors include preventing heart attacks caused by blood clots and eliminating adverse reactions to blood transfusions. You can play a vital role in advancing medicine for the cures and treatments of tomorrow.
