Zorongo Flamenco Dance Theatre

For over 40 years,

Zorongo Flamenco Dance Theatre has created and presented original flamenco works that express and help us process our times. Founding Artistic Director Susana di Palma’s unique artistic vision has expanded upon the flamenco tradition to create provocative theater works that explore diverse themes.

Fostering Connection

Our school builds community around this beautiful, communal art form. Our classes include diverse students of all ages and abilities coming together to learn in a supportive community, celebrating our individuality while creating a sense of belonging. Our studio is a vibrant space, hosting not only classes but also in-studio concerts, student showings, educational events, and guest artist workshops, all of which reach across and bring together a broader community.

A Year of Creativity

This past year was full of inspiration and connection. Zorongo co-presented Timepiece, a collaboration with Flying Foot Forum and Katha Dance Theatre at Park Square Theater, and premiered Amor de Díos, our newest theater work. We hosted internationally renowned dancer Nélida Tirado for a weeklong residency; shared flamenco through free performances at the Minnesota State Fair, the Minneapolis Institute of Art, Lake Harriet Bandshell, and a collaboration with Mixed Precipitation; and presented in-studio concerts, student showings, and community events. Our school's guitar class and Student Performing Company have entered their second year.

Inspiration and Connection Ahead

• Amanecer, our newest work showcasing traditional and contemporary flamenco, premiering at the Luminary Arts Center April 24-26 and featuring our Zorongo ensemble alongside special guest artists
• Viva, a passionate sharing of the essence of traditional flamenco in a tablao performance
• Expansion of our artistic leadership team, merging the talent and passion of both local and national artists
• The Best of Both Worlds, a retrospective film celebrating Zorongo’s unique theater flamenco works over the last 40 years and our contribution to Minnesota’s artistic landscape and the worldwide evolution of flamenco.
