Our mission is advancing the status of women. We help women gain access to education, health care, legal & economic resources.
We
are a chartered club of Zonta International, a volunteer service
organization dedicated to advancing the status of women and serving our
community through service, financial contributions, and scholarship offerings. Zonta envisions a world where every woman is literate and has access to
education, health care, legal and economic resources. In such a world,
no woman lives in fear of violence.
Some of the local programs Zonta of Minneapolis work with and support include:
Heartland Girls Ranch“Healing Youth, Building Lives Through Success” - Heartland Girls’ Ranch (HGR) is a working ranch and residential group
home licensed by the Department of Corrections for girls ages 12-21. HGR
serves an average of 40-50 girls each year providing housing,
supportive services, mental health and chemical dependency support,
equine therapy and a dedicated school for the girls in our program. HGR
has many programs including the Strides
Transitional Housing Program, as well as dedicated programs and services
in our Hearts for Freedom Program for girls who have been sexually
exploited/trafficked.
Breaking Free
Breaking Free has become one of the
nation’s leading organizations for working with victims and survivors of
sex trafficking and prostitution. Over the last 18 years, Breaking Free
has served more than 6,000 clients and reached over 22,000 individuals
via street outreach while systematically growing its programming to
embrace a full continuum of care. Every year, Breaking Free helps an average of 400-500 women and girls escape systems of prostitution and sexual exploitation through advocacy, direct services, housing, and education.
Women Achieving New Direction Women Achieving New Directions provides career exploration and
job-upgrading services to low-income, employed single mothers who are
financially supporting their children. Services provided are educational workshops and individual
employment counseling. Participants learn how to negotiate
salaries, build a professional network, create powerful resumes and cover
letters, and gain valuable interview skills.
Scholarship ProgramsZonta also has a number of scholarship programs that are awarded annually. These scholarships are awarded to women locally to help further their
college or university education. The 3
scholarships are the Jane Klausman Women in Business, Myrtle Lee, and the Young
Women in Public Affairs awards. These
are awarded to women pursuing a business or business related degree who
demonstrate outstanding potential in their field, single mothers pursuing
education, and young women who participate in public and political life that are
committed to the volunteer sector and are dedicated to advancing the status of
women.
Are you aware that the better off women
are, the better off their children and families are, and in turn, the
communities in which they live benefit too?
