CREATING PATHWAYS TO SUCCESS AND HEALTHIER LIFESTYLES

PROVIDE HEALTH, NUTRITION AND FITNESS PROGRAMS TO IMPROVE COMMUNITY HEALTH, IN PARTICULAR THE LIVES OF YOUTH AND FAMILIES SUFFERING FROM OBESITY AND ENHANCE YOUTHS’ WELLBEING THROUGH PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT AND ATHLETIC PROGRAMS. 

  • Providing fitness, nutrition, and wellness services to save underserved children, families, seniors and other lives by providing obesity services that lead to healthier lifestyles and decreased chronic diseases. From September to April 120 youth ages 10 years to 18 years participated in our fitness program two to three days per week at the YFDs Wellbeing Center and various satellite locations located in South Minneapolis and Brooklyn Center. 

 

  • Enhance youth futures by inspiring and equipping underserved youth and others with effective development programs to meet societal challenges and to better manage stress and mental health challenges. From November to March 45, high school age youth participated in our Youth Leaders Of Change program three times per month at the YFDs Wellbeing Center and participated in various leadership workshops in person and through our partnering online Charlie Academy collaboration.

 

  • Increase youth pathways to success by providing underserved youth and others with college prep and athletic programs that leads to post-secondary education and higher life achievement levels. From November to March, 26 high school juniors and seniors participated in our College Prep and Recruiting programs on a weekly basis at the YFDS Wellbeing Center and utilized our online college recruiting system to communicate with college recruiters. From May to August 110 youth ages 6 years to 18 years competed on our Track Minnesota Elite athletic program and competed in local meets and national meets in Las Vegas, Nevada and Houston, Texas gaining valuable track and travel experience. In addition, the youth families and other volunteers were instrumental in hosting 2 track events at Brooklyn Center High school and attracting over 1,000 participants. Ultimately, 6 out of 7 seniors is attending college on academic and athletic scholarships and the seventh joined the US Marines.
