Woodbury News Net

Woodbury News Net is a nonprofit, online news platform that publishes the weekly Roundabout and Out & About newsletters and maintains a website with all our stories and back issues. We are committed to independent, factual, and unbiased journalism. Woodbury News Net began publishing in August, 2024, and in just over a year, we already have more than 3,500 subscribers!

We believe in the importance of a community where everyone is informed, engaged and connected – a place where facts matter and reliable information is at your fingertips. This is the vision of our nonprofit, local, community-led, online, independent news initiative: Woodbury News Net.

As Minnesota’s 7th largest city, Woodbury deserves a dedicated news source.  Like too many other communities, our city has been affected by the loss of a local newspaper. We’ve missed out on coverage of important local issues, calendar listings of community events, reporting on local government, updates on local businesses and nonprofits, and a deeper awareness of the place we are proud to call home. Too often, we’ve seen misinformation spread rapidly and unchecked.

To address this critical gap in news coverage, local community leaders representing a variety of sectors, interests, businesses and organizations began meeting in fall of 2023 to explore launching a nonprofit news platform. Since then, many other volunteers have been welcomed to the project. Together, we bring experience in journalism, technology, finance and nonprofit management, and we share the commitment to launching an independent, reliable news source to serve our community.  We cast a wide net to cover critical issues as well as human interest stories from all corners of Woodbury to reflect the diversity of our community.

We believe that everyone deserves access to local news and information, and we are committed to publishing without a paywall. To do this, we are building a team of journalists and professionals so that WNN can be a lasting asset to our community. We rely on donations from individuals, grants, and support from local businesses and organizations in the form of sponsorships and advertising.
