WE WIN Institute

Nomads no more! 

For 29 years, WE WIN Institute has not had a permanent space of our own. We moved throughout Minneapolis, finding temporary places to continue to fulfill our mission of supporting the academic and social success of more than 6,000 children. 

Thanks to funding from the State of Minnesota and generous donors - like you - WE WIN welcomed our first class of WE WIN scholars to our new, forever home this September. We invited them to pick up a book in the cultural reading room, enjoy fresh veggies from our garden in the teaching kitchen, drum, dance, find quiet in the Imani/Kutafakari room, learn about Kwanzaa in the Kujichargulia room, and explore robotics in the Kempyuta room.

Your gift supports this brave space Black children and youth can be their beautiful, authentic selves. 

Our young people absorb a lot of negative messages about themselves and their Blackness in the media, at school, and from our government. They hear their lives don't matter, that their history should be erased from public museums, and other racist messages.

At WE WIN, we celebrate our Blackness through rituals, learning our history, reading Black authored and illustrated books, and participating in African art forms like drumming and dance. Our children are surrounded by a multigenerational, multicultural village that lifts them up, loves them for who they are, and helps them succeed.
