North Minneapolis is full of artists — not just hobbyists, but professional creators, culture bearers, and storytellers who shape the identity of our corridor. West Broadway holds some of the city’s most iconic murals, and WBC is proud to be the organization that has commissioned artists to create them through our Broadway Beautiful initiative.

Because at WBC, we don’t do business as usual — we do business as creative. We believe artists deserve not only recognition, but compensation.

That’s why we:

🎨 Earmark artists fees into every event budget plan

🎨 Prioritize paying musicians, performers, face painters, and cultural leaders

🎨 Commission live painters, dancers, drummers, fashion designers, and muralists

🎨 Invest $1,000+ per mural to beautify the corridor and combat graffiti

🎨 Hire hundreds of artists each year across our major events

After the outpouring of funding that followed the George Floyd unrest and the civil disruption experienced on West Broadway, our partnership with the City of Minneapolis and the generosity of private donors resulted in nearly $3M in support. WBC reinvested nearly every single dollar into West Broadway businesses, corridor improvements, community safety, and the cultural gatherings that hold the Northside together. 

These investments strengthened local, minority-owned small businesses, improved the health and beauty of our commercial corridor, supported a cleaner and safer environment, and protected the cultural heartbeat that defines our community. Yet even with all of this progress, there is still so much work to do and that is where you come in.
