Wags & Whiskers Animal Rescue of MN is a 501(c)(3) non-profit animal rescue. Formed in 2009, our organization and dedicated volunteer fosters are committed to saving the lives of homeless animals and educating the community on responsible pet ownership. Wags & Whiskers does not have a physical facility, instead all of our animals are housed in foster homes while they await their forever homes. With this approach, our foster parents become familiar with the personalities of his or her foster dog or cat and use this familiarity to match our animals to appropriate homes.

Our mission at Wags & Whiskers Animal Rescue of MN is to rescue and re-home all breeds of homeless, abandoned, neglected, and otherwise unwanted companion animals through our foster-based volunteer network. We are dependent on donations and adoption fees to continue with this mission.

Each animal within our care will receive:

  • Supplies (food, toys, bedding, collar, harness, leash, litter, litter boxes, supplements, kennel, and any other requested or necessary items)
  • Deworming
  • Spay or neuter surgery
  • Microchip implantation
  • Distemper and Rabies vaccinations
  • FIV and FeLV tests
  • Heartworm tests and treatment (if positive)
  • Monthly heartworm and flea/tick preventative
  • Routine vet care as well as treatment for any illness/injury
  • Training in house or with an associated training partners

While 2020 has thrown us all for a loop, we at Wags & Whiskers have not slowed down. We have been diligent in our efforts and were able to help so many deserving animals. Our year to date combined (dog & cat ) intake number is 709 animals. Our year to date adoption numbers are 375 dogs and 397 cats!

We were significantly challenged this year with COVID limiting our access to veterinary care. Although vetting was limited for many weeks, we worked diligently to ensure any animal that needed veterinary services was able to be seen by one of our vet partners who remained open. Unfortunately, we had numerous cases of feline ringworm this year, however we were able to provide proper treatment for every case and every cat received the all clear before being listed for adoption. We also supported many heartworm positive dogs through treatment. Year to date we have successfully treated 32 heartworm positive dogs and in 2019 we were able to successfully treat 31 heartworm positive dogs. Heartworm is not a death sentence and with proper treatment dogs can go on to live a normal, healthy, happy life. Thanks to supporters like you, we never had to deny a dog due to a heartworm positive status and can treat every animal with the appropriate veterinary care. We cannot thank you enough for that! If you have a furry friend at home, please be sure to stay up to date on monthly preventatives to keep them healthy and safe!  A special thank you to our fosters who care for an animal with a medical condition until they are healthy enough for adoption. It is not always easy, but the end result of witnessing a healthy animal find their forever home makes it worth it!

This year has been extremely difficult for so many. Not only does Wags & Whiskers need support now more than ever, but many other nonprofits and schools do as well. On behalf of our President Jill Arbogast, our Board, coordinators, fosters and volunteers, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts for choosing to support us. We give all that we can every single day to help animals in need and we would not be able to do that without the continued support from all of you.
