For six weeks out of every year, an auditioned volunteer choir with around 75 members assembles in Saint Paul Minnesota to prepare for two concerts that deliver great music and bring greater awareness to issues facing our society today.
THE CHOIR
“This is the future of choral music.” – Choir member and arts fundraiser
Amidst a vibrant and rich choral community, VocalPoint stands out as a rare choral experience both for the singers and the audience. Over the course of six intensive weeks, singers stretch themselves to learn a wide variety of repertoire that is thematically selected to reflect and relay the message and mission of a selected beneficiary organization. Messages of awareness and hope are woven throughout the concert, taking audiences on an informational, emotional and artistic journey.
THE CAUSE
“ Friends – All of us at Avenues for Homeless Youth (board, staff, youth, supporters) are humbled and inspired by all of you. The VocalPoint community has been so generous in SO many ways. Thank you, thank you, thank you.”—Avenues for Homeless Youth
Each year, VocalPoint partners with a beneficiary organization through an application and review process. Once selected, the work of the beneficiary organization helps shape the artistic theme of the concerts. VocalPoint strives to not only raise funds for the beneficiary organization by way of free-will donations collected at concerts, it seeks to raise awareness and understanding about the beneficiary’s mission.
For five years, VocalPoint has produced these annual concerts, raising our voices, raising awareness and raising nearly $200,000 (including matching grants) for six deserving local organizations.
2012: Open Arms of Minnesota - an organization that ensures people living with serious illness don’t go hungry
2013: Avenues for Homeless Youth - an organization that raises awareness about the prevalent problem of youth homelessness in Minnesota and shelters these young people
2014: Neighborhood House - an organization that helps people, families and organizations develop the skills, knowledge, and confidence to thrive in diverse communities
2015: The Advocates for Human Rights – a local organization that works globally to support human rights of all people.
2016: Upstream Arts – an organization with the mission of enhancing the lives of adults and youth with disabilities by fostering creative communication and social independence through the power of arts education.
2017: One Heartland - an organization that brings young people around campfires to deal with life challenges.
2018: Twin Cities R!SE - an organization whose mission is to transform lives out of poverty through meaningful employment.
2019: Walk-In Counseling Center - an organization that aims to provide free, easily accessible mental health counseling to people with urgent needs and few service options.
This year, VocalPoint will sing for Express Bike Shop, a youth job readiness program of Keystone Community Services, which offers youth opportunities to develop good work habits and skills.
In eight seasons, VocalPoint has raised over $200,000 for eight incredible organizations.
SUPPORT THE MUSIC. BETTER THE WORLD.
As its own nonprofit organization, VocalPoint has real operating expenses incurred by producing annual concerts. Like many performing arts organizations, ticket sales only cover a portion of these expenses. VocalPoint relies on the generosity of contributors like YOU to ensure that the music and work continues.
Here’s how you can help
1. Donate today. A donation to VocalPoint – in any amount – will help ensure that this unique blend of artistry, advocacy and philanthropy continues.
2. Attend a concert. 2020 concerts are February 8 and 9, 2020.
Thank you!
