United Way of Freeborn County collaborates to connect people, resources and ideas to create a thriving community characterized by measurable and long lasting improvements to education, income and health.

United Way supports 22 programs in Freeborn County which meet a variety of needs including: *Support and childcare for adults who are preparing for their GED, learning English and developing job skills *Healthy activites for children and adults *Opportunities for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities  *Job skills and coaching for people with disabilities  *Support and guidance for parents  *Leadership experiences for children  *Emergency child care services and 24-hour phone line for parent support *Disaster response and emergency services, providing food, shelter and necessities *Homeless shelter and financial stability program *Transportation and chore services for seniors so they may remain independent *Nutritious meals for seniors and people who are on a fixed income *Quality childcare and preschool programs for families on a fixed income



What Your Dollar Will Do:

$1/day helps provide a hot lunch and nutritious snack for a
child who is on the Sliding Fee Program at The Children’s Center.

$1/day will cover the cost of three youth memberships to the
Albert Lea Family Y for one year

$3/day provides transportation for a worker at Cedar Valley

$1 will purchase more than 5 pounds of food for local
families in need

$1/day provides 6 round-trip rides for a senior to get
medical service at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester

$2/day will cover the cost of one and a half single parent
memberships for one year

$3/week provides an opportunity for 20 students with
disabilities to attend an after-school program where they experience
hands-on-learning through 4-H.

$4.50/week provides mowing or snow blowing services for a
senior household for the season

$5.50 provides one hour of Parent WarmLine telephone line
for emotional support and problem-solving assistance

$10/week provides developmentally appropriate activities for a child to help them be fully prepared for Kindergarten

$10.50/week provides a senior two hours/month of volunteer respite service for a caregiver’s loved one

$16/week provides 100 one-way rides for a senior within the
city limits of Albert Lea

$25 provides 24 hours of safe, emergency child care for a
disadvantaged child whose parent is coping with a family crisis

$30/week provides on the job training for a worker at Cedar
Valley

$32.50 will pay for one week of hot meals for a homebound
senior

$50/month provides 42 seniors with help from the senior
advocate such as receiving nutritional food deliveries, finding the right Medicare Part-D program and help finding other financial resources

$120 will pay for a month of meals for a senior who dines at
a congregate dining site
