Improving lives in Douglas County through education, health and self sufficiency.

United Way of Douglas County is creating opportunities for everyone to be educated, healthy and self-sufficicient. We do this by working with dozens of organizations, hundreds of businesses, and thousands of volunteers and donors.  

We focus on education, health and self-sufficiency because those are the building blocks of life.  We engage the people with the passion, knowledge and resources to get things done.

No one organization or activity will move our community to a healthier future, but if we can agree that WE ALL NEED EACH OTHER then we can share the load.

Our successes include efforts in each of our three goals.  Within education we work with organizations who are addressing the academic needs of children in a way that helps them succeed beyond the classroom. 

Within Health we engage people who are willing to serve as AmeriCorps Members, work with the state Volunteer Corporation, and 10 community organizations to get more wellness information and tools into the hands of our most vulnerable residents.

Within Self-sufficiency we are coordinating efforts around food pantries and case management to assure the limited resources are going as far as possible.

None of this work is easy, but we need to build the hope that will make our neighbors successful in life.
