Mission Statement
"As a youth bowling club our mission is to provide a safe haven for youth bowlers to compete, have fun with their friends, learn the game of bowling, and earn scholarship money for post high school education at Tuttle's in Hopkins, MN. We also provide a great social retreat for parents, relatives and friends of the youth bowlers who participate."
About Our Cause
Tuttles Smart Scholarship, dba Tuttle's Youth Bowling Club is a 501(c)(3) charity organization that provides a unique recreational bowling opportunity for youth from the ages of 2-18. As a certified youth league under the United States Bowling Congress (USBC), the youth bowling club meets on Saturday mornings during the fall and winter months at Tuttle's Eat.Bowl.Play. located in Hopkins, MN. This past season which ended with our annual breakfast-awards ceremony on 4-12-2025, featured 93 youth bowlers from the ages of 2 to 18. We purchase a new bowling ball, bag and pay for the drilling for all new USBC sanctioned bowlers as part of their membership. We also provide a Summer Fun Pass to members that allows them to bowl 2 games with free rental shoes throughout the summer. Members are nationally sanctioned by the USBC and can compete in local/district/state/national tournaments.
We have two sessions, (fall and winter) and each are 12 weeks plus two additional scholarship tournaments. We have registered volunteers and certified coaches on site and have an event schedule that includes bake sales, holiday sale, beat the coach, awards days, 50/50 raffles and much more. Parents, relatives, friends are encouraged to stick around during club bowling as breakfast is always available. It is a very festive and fun environment where youth bowlers also earn scholarship money on a weekly basis. A portion of their weekly fees are automatically assigned to their scholarship account as well as extra funds for "bowler of the week/month" and weekly honorable mentions. Our club paid out a record $20,500 in scholarship money to our 93 members in 2025. In total we have paid out over $90,000 since our inception back in 2007. Scholarship funds are administered and managed by USBC SMART. SMART stands for Scholarship Management and Accounting Reports for Tenpins. This USBC program began operation in August, 1994. The program offers the bowling community a centralized location to manage their bowling scholarship funds, as well as providing USBC members a resource for inquiries about bowling scholarships and participating in this program is at no cost to members and/or organizations like Tuttle’s Youth leagues. We submit funds annually to our SMART account #10812 to be dispersed to our active members each year. SMART automatically assigned funds to the respective youth bowlers for their post high school educational use. Youth bowlers receive a letter from SMART each time they earn scholarship money and there is no limit on how many times and how much they can earn.
Upon earning their first scholarship, a youth bowler receives a letter from SMART detailing the amount, tournament, or club, etc. They are assigned a username and password at the bowl.com/youth/smart website. From there the youth bowler can track their scholarship throughout their youth bowling career. The scholarship funds are available for 6 years from the date of their high school graduation. There will be a reminder letter sent 2 years and 1 year before that expiration date of any funds. When the youth bowler is ready to use their funds, they contact SMART and complete the appropriate paperwork.
The following list is a quick summary (contact SMART for complete listing). Funds can be used at universities and colleges, bowling camps or bowling lessons, bowling coach seminars, business schools, continuing educational courses, educational camps, professional development seminars and workshops, technical schools and trade schools, and vocational schools. They can be used for tuition fees, housing fees, meal plans, books, and required class supplies and equipment necessary for the successful completion of a course or program.
