Harvesting unrealized potential to help African communities thrive

Almost 250 million people in Africa are food insecure (FAO). This is in spite of the fact that Africa has 2/3 of the world's unused arable land. A lack of mechanization is one big factor. Many African farmers still do the majority of tillage by hand, with a lucky few having access to mule-drawn plows. A typical family can only farm 2-5 acres this way, resulting in much lower yields than farmers in developed countries.

Tractors for Africa provides agricultural equipment and training to African farming communities to increase productivity and standards of living. We send refurbished  tractors and implements to farming cooperatives across Burkina Faso and Ghana. Additionally, we provide extensive local training on equipment use, maintenance and safety, in addition to basic agronomy, soil management, and business systems.

Last year, on average, our partner cooperatives doubled their yields across four different crops. This leads to a dramatic increase in household annual income. Additionally, hundreds of man-hours were saved from back breaking hand tillage. Our partners tell us they use their additional time and income to make improvements to their homes, cultivate vegetable gardens, and pay school fees for their children.

Your donation will help us continue to support our existing partner cooperatives, and send additional shipments to new partners across West Africa. We appreciate your support!
