It happens every day, everywhere. One little mistake — a gate left ajar, a collar fitted too loosely, a single moment of inattention — and a dog bolts and goes missing.

Most owners have no idea how to even start searching for their missing family member, yet they understand that a lost dog is a dog in danger.

Founded in 2014, the Retrievers is an all-volunteer team based in Minneapolis that offers tools, resources and consultation at no charge to help rescues and individual owners find their lost dogs.

Because so many lost dogs are skittish and unapproachable, we've created innovative, humane live trapping techniques that greatly increase the chances of securing the dog once its general whereabouts are known. We are often called upon to capture strays, and there is no greater joy than learning that the dog we brought to safety was someone's family member they've been searching for.
