The Retreat represents a non-clinical, mutual-help approach to the problem of alcohol and drug dependency.

Our mission is to improve the quality of life for individuals, families and communities affected by alcohol and drug dependency by providing affordable and effective educational services grounded in the Twelve Step principles of Alcoholics Anonymous.

Who we are: The Retreat is a non-clinical, mutual-help approach to the problem of alcohol and drug dependency. This supportive, educational setting is grounded in the principles of AA. By providing a safe and supportive environment to study and practice these principles, The Retreat opens the door to a life of continued sobriety.

Our recovery program employs a community of over 400 volunteers who are living their recovery at the highest level. These volunteers carry a message based on their own experience. They are very passionate and make a life of recovery both attractive and within reach. Our community-oriented approach effectively integrates people into the vibrant recovering community of the Twin Cities, helping them to establish a solid foundation for long term recovery. Since its founding in 1998, The Retreat has helped 30,000 individuals and families in their recovery journeys.

Situated in the Wayzata Big Woods just west of the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul, Minnesota, The Retreat provides a natural cathedral for reflection, renewal and recovery. The Retreat is not a replacement for a clinical treatment experience.
