You can provide hope and healing services to survivors of domestic sexual exploitation & trafficking through Give to the MAX! Your generous gift will be doubled through a matching grant donation from Amy & Eric Dearking!
At Terebinth Refuge, we believe in the impact that holistic, trauma-informed care, and services can make in the lives of sexually exploited and trafficked women in the United States.
Throughout the last 6 years, Terebinth Refuge has been one of the only organizations of its kind located in St Cloud, MN, which provides both safe home and transitional housing along with supportive wrap-around services for women and their small children. We encourage adult women survivors to experience the healing, hope, and freedom found through the holistic services we provide.
When a woman arrives at Terebinth Refuge her journey to freedom has already begun. Being able to leave the situation and travel to our safe home is a huge, brave, and empowering step for her! She is coming to a strange place and may be fearful of the unknown. We recognize this and are able to offer her space and time to rest. Many of the women who journey to Terebinth Refuge are tired and need a few days to get used to their new surroundings. During this time, we encourage a time for reflection, healthy meals, rest, and physical care.
After a few days of rest and getting accustomed to their surroundings, the women are ready to begin working with the in-house Case Manager identifying goals. The Case Manager assists in making appointments with services like mental health, chemical dependency services, and physical health/wellness programming. They will also meet with the RN on staff to go over medications and to make Dr, Dental, and vision appointments, if necessary. We are fortunate to be able to partner with other local service providers in gaining referrals for off-site services, enabling the women to learn, and to receive the tools and information for living a healthy lifestyle resulting in positive outcomes in their communities.
One of the fun parts of this stage is that we begin to see the women participate in the morning Rise & Shine time, in which we talk about the happenings of the house for the day. We make plans, like arranging rides to appointments, school, or work. We discuss the upcoming activities of the day, like craft time, new books that arrived, pet/equine therapy, and etc. We talk about meals, meal planning, daily chores, and make plans for the advocates to assist when needed. We also take time to share with one another and encourage each other over a cup of coffee/tea. It is a time for valuable life skills and employment readiness education aimed at providing women with the opportunity to grow and to succeed. These restorative services are truly life changing!
Daytime is for individual programs, like appointments, jobs, physical exercise, learning new skills, journaling, and making plans for the future. The women set smart goals, move at their own pace, and determine their own outcomes. Advocates are there to assist every step of the way by listening, helping, and encouraging them in positive directions.
Once dinner is finished and cleaned up, there will be time for an activity like a movie, craft, or a time for reading. We encourage healthy evening activities followed by a restful night's sleep. We have advocates on staff during the night time, too. The women are supported every step of the way.
The residents at Terebinth Refuge are resilient and are changing their lives in significant ways through their daily dedication to hope and healing. Many residents are experiencing what true rest and recovery means for the first time in their lives. As they heal and develop the skills needed to self-advocate and succeed in their goals, they gain the ability to care for themselves and their families, building a safe, healthy, and sustainable lifestyle that will last a lifetime.
Terebinth Refuge offers structure and programs to help to facilitate long-term freedom. Many residents have now graduated from the program and have found a place of their own. They are excited to live independently with after-care services available.
We are so proud of each of the residents!
