Promoting Tamil Language, Arts & Culture with in the state of Minnesota


 

Tamil language is the ancient most surviving World Classical Language with history of more than 2000 years. Tamil has about 90 Million native speakers and holds official language status in India, Singapore and Srilanka. MN Tamil Sangam and Tamil School have been instrumental in promoting Tamil Language, Arts and culture in the state of Minnesota for a few years by conducting cultural events, conducting Tamil language classes for K12 students, community gathering  and many more all through the year.

MNTS Tamil School was accredited by AdvancED during Oct 2014 and currently close to 350 students learns the language at Hopkins and Woodbury branches. MNTS Tamil School has the unique distinction of being the only Indian language school to get the accreditation in the state of Minnesota. Twelve of the MNTS Tamil School students have successfully passed the evaluation and have earned the Bilingual Gold Seal for Tamil since June 2016. Tamil School is continuing to work with various school districts in Minnesota for getting language credits for it is high school students learning. In Year 2018 MNTS has setup Scholarship Endowment to reward and inspire more and more students taking up Tamil Language learning up until Bilingual Seal.  


MN Tamil Sangam and MNTS Tamil School conducts various events all through the year:

January – SANGAMAM – Celebration of the harvest festival PONGAL & NEW YEAR

February – World Mother Language Day Celebration (Competition) on Feb 21

April – School Annual Day Celebration – Students/Teachers showcasing their Tamil Talent on stage.

May -   Participate in Festival of Nation Cultural exhibit and giving unique performance in the world stage. 

June – Annual MN Open Competitions on various Tamil Language skills

July – Muthamizh Vizha (3 core aspects of Tamil culture – Literature, Dance/Music & Drama) with invited guests from Tamilnadu-INDIA

 August – MN Tamil Community – Summer Picnic & Participating at India Fest to showcase Tamil culture

September – Tamil School Academic Year starts
November – Annual Chess competition

 

Apart from this we conduct special events all through the year based on the US touring Tamil laureates, Musicians, Singers, Drama & Dancers. After School Workshops on Folk and Traditional Arts, Round the year activities by Youth Forum, Women Forum and Literary Forum are the key to highlight.
