Who we are

The Superior Cycling Association (SCA) is a mountain bike club based in Cook County, Minnesota. Since 2010 we have been building and maintaining singletrack trails through the epic landscape of the North Shore. We love the trails we have, and we have big plans to build more. Our trails at Britton Peak, Jackpot/High Climber, and Pincushion Mountain total 34 miles of amazing riding.

2025 Wins

An impactful year for the SCA

1. High Climber got a full rehab! The 5 mile cross country trail from Lutsen Mountain to Onion River Road has some of the best terrain and flow anywhere in Minnesota. High Climber ridden together with the 8.5 mile Jackpot Trail offers one of the signature mountain bike experiences in the Midwest! Nearly 14 miles of continuous singletrack winding through the rugged natural beauty and stunning landscape of the Sawtooth Mountains. With amazing berms, optional jumps and rideoffs, kickers, and a few techy rock features, the newly rehabbed High Climber should be on every rider's tick list. 
2. Back 80 at Pincushion Mountain also got a full rehab! The smooth rolling and gentle climbs of Back 80 offers beginners a fun 2 miles of trail to hone their skills while also being a place for the experienced rider to tack on a few more miles of amazing singletrack! And it's within riding distance of downtown Grand Marais!
3. We installed a Pumptrack and Bike Park at the Cook County Community Center! This new feature brings riders of all ages together to learn skills and tests their bike handling abilities before taking them to the trails. After just one season of the pumptrack being opened it has already become a staple in our community. 
4. In July the SCA hired its first executive director and this new position is having a huge impact! The executive director will be essential for carrying out the SCA's vision for the future of mountain biking, gravel riding, a fat biking on the North Shore. The position is currently funded part-time through 2026. We are working hard to find sustainable funding to make this a permanent position within the organization.

2026 Needs

What does your donation fund in the coming year for the SCA?

• Operations - Keeping newly rehabbed trails in good shape takes work. We are always in need for more operational funds to keep our trails open and equipment running. Our #1 goal is for our trails to be ridable for as much of the year as possible. Working drains in the spring, weed whipping in the summer, leaf blowing in the fall, and grooming for fat bike riding in the winter. Trail maintenance is a year-round job.
• Capacity - Our new executive director will be working to raise money for our next projects. New trails, enhanced trail features, gravel connector trails, a mountain bike hub with trail access to Pincushion, new cycling events, advocacy for Sawtooth Bluff, and one day a point to point trail from Tofte to Grand Marais.
