St. Michael's School

St. Michael's School was founded in 1930 by the Sisters of Mount St. Benedict.  It's history is rich with dedication and sacrifice  by parents, parishioners,  pastors, priests, deacons and many sisters. Today St. Michael's School is staffed with licensed and  caring teachers, whose main mission is stated thus; "In the presence of God, St. Michael's School provides a nurturing environment, academic excellence and spiritual growth in order to prepare children to live wisely and serve faithfully." 

Much has changed in the field of education over the past  90 years, but not the quality of education at St. Michael's School.  Each student is led  and inspired to do their best work each and every day.  St. Michael's School is accredited through the Minnesota Non-Public School Accrediting Association since 1991.  Accreditation ensures that a school has met high standards and is  actively seeking to provide a quality educational program for its students.

Located in Mahnomen, Minnesota,brings  St. Michael's School many financial challenges.  Mahnomen County is the poorest county in Minnesota with a per ca pita income of $17,999.  Drug and alcohol addiction is a plague upon many of our American Indian families,  the effects upon  children in these homes is profound. Many deal with social, emotional and behavioral issues which affect their  ability to learn.  St. Michael's provides a family type atmosphere where a students social, emotional and spiritual  needs can be met. 

St. Michael's School has a robust Parent Teacher Committee, which provides support to the school financially and physically with help at fundraisers and school events.  Parents have a direct investment in the classroom by helping to provide the funds for curriculum, technology and teacher requests.  An excellent relationship exists between teachers and parents due to the small class sizes and  parent  volunteerism for school functions.
