St. John Paul II Catholic School in Northeast Minneapolis, one of four schools that make up Ascension Catholic Academy, is built on a history of serving immigrants and all the faithful, which continues today. Its mission is to provide a rigorous, faith-infused education in grades K- 8 and to care for the whole child, working to remove any barrier to education a family may face.

No Scholar is Turned Away

We set our tuition well below our cost of educating each child. We work with families to make this transformational education affordable and available to all who desire it. Generous donors like you who support Catholic education provide 95 percent our revenue, allowing us to provide financial aid grants to our scholars.

Individualized Learning Plans and Social-Emotional Learning

Teachers and staff are working as a team with scholars and families to develop individualized learning plans that set academic goals AND social-emotional educational goals. Teachers are supported in achieving these goals with observation, feedback and 1:1 coaching. Wellness will be a key goal for scholars and staff. All members of our class of 2019 received their high school diplomas, persevering evend uring the pandemic, which closed classrooms.

Newcomer Experience

Our Newcomer Experience program is in its second year of supporting scholars and families who are new immigrants with special curriculum and outreach.

SLAM Summer Program

Scholars from all four Ascension Catholic Academy schools come together for Super Summer Language and Math (SLAM), a six-week program aimed at combating summer slide and providing a safe, enriching experience for scholars and peace of mind for their families.
